Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death after emergency responders were called to a residence in Clarksville, Virginia, on Monday morning.
According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 9:34 a.m. in the Merifield Acres subdivision of Clarksville.
Deputies, along with Mecklenburg County Emergency Services personnel, arrived at the residence and discovered a 42-year-old man deceased inside the home. Officials have not formally identified the individual through official investigative announcements. However, multiple reports have identified the deceased as Senior Trooper Justin Kempo of the Virginia State Police.
The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Mechanicsville, where an autopsy will determine the official cause and manner of death.
Investigators with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office continue to lead the investigation and have emphasized that the case remains active while awaiting findings from the medical examiner.
